Parents & Supporters
Congratulations on your student's acceptance to UC Berkeley!
While your student is completing online modules addressing academics and life at Berkeley prior to arrival on campus, here are some resources just for parents and student supporters.
Important Note: In order to participate in the various activities, minors must bring the waiver signed by their parents/guardians to the event.
Not a parent? No problem!
Cal Parents and the Letter Home series are for useful for anyone who serves as a support system for a Berkeley undergraduate.
Golden Bear Orientation for Parents and Supporters is the best introduction to UC Berkeley for parents and supporters of incoming students. At the Parent and Supporter Program, you begin to navigate the new campus and its resources, meet fellow supporters, and learn about important UC Berkeley requirements, traditions, and culture — and understand the critical role they can play in your student’s college career. Our Parent and Supporter Program addresses issues and concerns directly related to the support systems of incoming students.
The Parent and Supporter Program is hosted during Move-In, on Sunday, August 13 and Monday, August 14, 2017. The program should last two to three hours; multiple sessions will be held during the two days of Move-In. Cal Parents will contact you with more details or you can check this website in early summer.
Cal Parents provides many resources for parents, guardians, and families of all UC Berkeley students. You'll find a resource guide, Facebook community, and updates on campus policies.
If you or your student has questions about the Golden Bear Experience, including Golden Bear Orientation, that is not included elsewhere, see our FAQs page. The questions cover fees, cancellations, and other important matters.
You are welcome to communicate with your student in whatever way you all agreed upon (calls, texts, emails). Please know that students will have an extremely busy Golden Bear Orientation schedule and may not be available to respond to you immediately.
No. Students participate in Golden Bear Orientation without families or guests. If you or a supporter are interested in participating in a program, please feel free to attend our Parent and Supporter Program.
During Move-In, activity is very busy so be sure to plan ahead and read instructions at the Housing Move-In website. Once you've moved in, you can find long-term parking at a variety of university-owned parking lots and structures.
If you plan to accompany your student to Move-In, we highly recommend that you attend the Parent and Supporter Program. This experience, for all student supporters, is optional, and the choice to attend is a personal one.
We cannot provide housing for parents, families, and guests during orientation. Please visit the Cal Parents Lodging & Dining web page for a list of nearby lodging.
