Thursday, January 11: GBO Check-In

Your first important (read: mandatory!) step in Golden Bear Orientation is Check-In on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Here’s what you need to know.

Where to Check-In

GBO Check In will occur in Pauley Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the MLK Student Union building.

During GBO Check-In, you will get:

  • your GBO nametag and wristband, which will grant you access to events including meals
  • your Cal 1 Card and AC Transit Pass if you’re a commuter or living off-campus. If you live in a Res Hall, you’ll get your Cal 1 Card when you move in.

When to Check-In

January GBO Check In will open at 11:30am and close at 1:00pm.

We will be serving lunch during the Check In time. Immediately after Check In closes (1:00pm), we will be connecting you with your Orientation Leaders at Grouping. From there, your Orientation Leaders will lead you to all GBO programs throughout the four days.

What to Bring to Check In

Bring a valid ID (state ID, drivers license, and/or passport). That’s it!

Parking & University Residence Hall Move In

Campus and the City of Berkeley should not be very busy on both Tuesday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 16, though there may be adjusted street parking hours/limits due to Housing Move In. There are campus-owned parking structures at multiple locations around central campus, as well as a lot directly under the MLK Student Union building. View the Campus Parking site, as well as the Student Permit process. There are also public lots surrounding campus. You may have lots of items in your car as your start your Berkeley career- we encourage you to not leave valuables in your car and move into your Berkeley residence prior to GBO Check In.

If you have Move-In questions: Review the Housing Move-In page and follow instructions emailed to your new berkeley.edu email. Each student has an assigned move-in time day based on their housing assignment which will occur prior to GBO Check In.
