NoticeCOVID-19 Updates for 2020-21 Golden Bear Orientationx
The latest updates on the evolving COVID-19 policies and resources for the campus community

This is a general schedule with some of the programs that are a part of Golden Bear Orientation. You’ll receive your unique and personalized schedule from your Orientation Leader with the required programming and you will have the opportunity to add things to your schedule that interest you throughout the week on the first day of GBO. We hope this sample gives you an idea of the exciting programs you’ll experience as part of your orientation!

Majority of programs will be recorded and accessible in bCourses for you to access after GBO if you miss something you’re interested in attending. We understand that circumstances may not allow you to engage as much as you’d like in an online setting. Please reach out to us at if you are concerned about what your schedule would look like with your anticipated level of engagement.

Students will engage in dialogue and community building with a small group of their peers and Orientation Leaders, including discussions following these programs:

  • Bear Pact: Bear Pact is a mandatory performance that will teach you about important issues faced by college students: sexual violence and harassment, mental health, and alcohol use. Learn about the many ways you can maintain a balanced lifestyle and the resources on campus that can help you in this pursuit. You will also gain strategies to take care of friends, classmates, and roommates.
  • Bear Foundations: Bear Foundations will bring together all incoming students to recognize and reflect upon the diversity of UC Berkeley.

On The Same Page

UC Berkeley has a campus-wide book-in-common program called On the Same Page. Each year a book or other work of art is chosen to be the focus of activities, events and discussions for the incoming class. The book chosen for the 2020 program is Exit West, by Mohsin Hamid who will deliver a keynote address virtually during GBO.
