How to Get News
- Are you a staff or faculty member who would like to learn about volunteering and outreach opportunities with Golden Bear Orientation? If so, email New Student Services at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll add you to our email list and share updates. In the subject line, please include: Staff/Faculty Volunteer Subscribe. In the meantime, you can check out opportunities listed below.
- Are you a member/leader of an RSO within the LEAD Center? Your organization can be involved in Getting Your Bearings. LEAD Center will email you with forms to submit your events. We also have some details listed below.
Staff/Faculty Volunteering (fall only)
We welcome individual staff or faculty involvement (whether or not your department is already involved with GBO). These types of opportunities include supporting large events like GBO Check-In, Chancellor’s New Student Convocation, Bear Territory, etc. Read more about the volunteer opportunities.

Campus Department Opportunities
During Golden Bear Orientation, each college is designated time to host programs such as small group panels, college welcomes, lectures, socials, etc. Colleges work with New Student Services to secure spaces and publish schedules in the GBO Guide in the Cal Events Mobile App. Each college has individual(s) who serve as liaisons to New Student Services. Campus Department Resource Fair
The Campus Department Resource Fair provides a space for incoming students to connect with our many support services.
Conference Day (fall only)
The final day of fall GBO is Conference Day enables departments to host events (workshops, open houses, drop-in advising, etc.) for students to select. All of these events are included on the Cal Events App. New Student Services can help you host this program by offering general classroom spaces.

Campus Departments & Registered Student Organizations
Getting Your Bearings
Student transition to campus continues after the first day of classes. Getting Your Bearings highlights events (such as an open house, info sessions hosted by organizations, welcome back socials, etc.) during the first three weeks of each semester. All of these events are included on the Cal Events App. All spaces must be requested and confirmed by the hosting department.
Fall GBO: New Student Services (firstname.lastname@example.org) email sent in June.

Spring GBO: New Student Services (email@example.com) email sent between October and November.
