Special Orientation Programs
Some of you may be part of a campus program that will be offering additional programming prior to Golden Bear Orientation, or you even may be wondering if you are eligible to attend Golden Bear Orientation. Here is information about those programs (including registration information in some cases) and other populations.
As an EAP Reciprocity student, you are required to complete Golden Bear Prep and attend Golden Bear Orientation. However, you will not complete Golden Bear Advising. The Berkeley International Office (BIO) hosts an International Student Orientation. Please see BIO’s International Student Orientation for more information.
Whether you have been away for a few semesters or a few years, your transition requires you to reacquaint yourself with the academic, financial, and administrative systems at UC Berkeley. You are eligible to attend Golden Bear Orientation in order to get started back at UC Berkeley. To register for GBO, we need to add you manually. Contact New Student Services, identify yourself as a readmitted student who wants to register for Golden Bear Orientation, and include your student ID number.
Hosted by the African American Student Development Center (AASD), BlackSO addresses the specific transitional and community needs of African American/Black students at Cal. BlackSO consists of community building activities, academic and campus life workshops, and a resource fair. Note: If you are attending BlackSO, send your request to AASD to move to campus Sunday prior to move-in.
Hosted by the Disabled Students’ Program (DSP), the Disabled Students’ Program Orientation is designed to help you get off to a great start at Cal and will lay the foundation for your success here. The orientation is mandatory for all incoming students with disabilities (freshmen, transfer students, graduate students) who will be connecting with DSP services.
Participants will learn about campus resources, DSP accommodations, self-advocacy, talking with faculty about accommodations, your legal rights as a student with disabilities, and more. A resource fair will allow you to connect immediately with campus and community partners. Note: If you are moving into campus housing and attending DSP Orientation, you may move in on Sunday prior to move-in and attend DSP Orientation on Monday. To be eligible for Sunday move in, contact your assigned DSP specialist and request early move-in.
Hosted by the Chicanx Latinx Student Development Center (CLSD), this orientation, Estan En Buenas Manos, addresses the specific transitional and community needs of Chicanx and Latinx students at Cal. The orientation consists of resource fair, community building activities, and speakers. Note: Those who register and attend this event will be able to move into campus housing on Sunday prior to move-in, after the Familia Orientation.
Hosted by the Native American Student Development Center (NASD), this orientation addresses the specific transitional and community needs of native students at UC Berkeley and consists of learning about campus resources, financial aid, and community building. Note: If you are attending this event, send your request to NASD to move to campus on Sunday prior to move-in.
Hosted by the Asian Pacific American Student Development Center (APASD), Pilipino Academic Student Services (PASS), Asian Pacific American Theme House (APATH), and Asian Pacific Islander Recruitment and Retention Center (REACH), this orientation addresses the specific transitional and community needs of Asian American, Pilipinx, and Pacific Islander students at UC Berkeley and consists of learning about campus resources, workshops, and community building. Note: The Asian Pacific American Theme House (APATH) is only open to students who have been admitted to the program. Hosted by Intercollegiate Athletics, this orientation is for incoming Intercollegiate/Varsity student athletes. This event reviews resources for student athletes and NCAA/Athletics compliance. Hosted by the Berkeley International Office (BIO), International Student Orientation addresses the unique needs of international students, including learning about the transition to the US-American culture, academic success, building community, and navigating campus resources.Note: If you are attending this event, please register here by July 5 to move to campus on Sunday prior to move-in.
Pell Grant recipients from Southern California are invited to catch a ride to campus with the California Alumni Association Golden Bear Express. The bus ride is sponsored by the various Southern California alumni chapters of UC Berkeley. If you are an eligible student, you'll receive details abut this in the summer.
